In our lineage, the beaters are softer than what is usually found on Damarus. One way of achieving the softness is to wrap the beater in cotton and fixing it in a small pouch. Sewing such a small pouch is very tricky for some us. The finger tips of cotton gloves offer a possible alternative. However, in the Damaru workshop, this alternative was discussed and it was concluded cotton gloves are a bit too pale. I have now dyed half a dozen cotton gloves in rose red color, so if anyone wants to experiment using the finger tips to customise their beaters, just let me know I will be happy to send you a glove. I can't guarantee it will work, and the work on the Damaru is something of a process and practice of itself.
