About the event
We're delighted to open our new book circle (Living Awake at the Threshold: The Five Invitations Book Circle) with a special guest. Guy Newland will join us to talk about his own journey with grief.
Guy spent decades as a scholar and practitioner of Tibetan Buddhism. He taught at Central Michigan University from 1988 and helped bring Tsongkhapa's Great Treatise on the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment into English. When his wife Valerie died of cancer, he found that none of it had prepared him for the loss. A Buddhist Grief Observed is his honest record of that time. It follows the tradition of C. S. Lewis's A Grief Observed and asks which teachings held him up, which ones didn't, and what it really means to practise when everything falls apart.
Guy will share his story. Then we'll open the circle for your reflections, questions, and experiences of loss in an interactive session with the sangha.
Whether you walked with us through our grief series or are joining us for the first time, you're warmly welcome.
